Dilek Peninsula National Park

Dilek Peninsula–Büyük Menderes Delta National Park (Dilek Yarımadası Milli Parkı) protects a wild, mountainous finger of land jutting into the Aegean just south of Kuşadası — about 30 km, or 40 minutes, via the resort suburb of Güzelçamlı. It is the cleanest stretch of coast in the area, where pine-clad slopes drop straight to clear turquoise coves, and it makes a wonderful escape from the busy town beaches.

Four main beaches line the park road, each a few minutes apart, so you can hop between them. İçmeler is the first and largest, sand-and-pebble with the most facilities; Aydınlık is a long, pebbly bay loved for its exceptionally clear water; Kavaklı Burun is smaller and quieter; and Karasu, deepest into the park, is the wildest and least crowded. A shuttle service runs along the park road in high season to save the walk between them.

The park is also a genuine nature reserve. Its forests shelter wild boar — which famously wander down to the beaches and roadside in the late afternoon — along with golden jackals, badgers and a rich birdlife, especially around the Menderes delta wetlands at the far end. A signposted canyon hiking trail (Kanyon) climbs inland for those who want to swap the beach for the forest.

There is an entrance fee per person (cars pay extra), and the park is open daily through the season, usually from early morning. Facilities are limited — a few simple cafés near İçmeler — so it is wise to bring water, snacks or a picnic, plus shoes you can swim in, as several of the beaches are pebbly.

Go on a weekday if you can: summer weekends draw large numbers of local families and the car parks fill early. You can reach the park by car or taxi, or by the seasonal dolmuş from Kuşadası towards Güzelçamlı, which continues to the park gate.
