A local’s month-by-month guide to Kuşadası weather, sea temperature, crowds, prices and the sweet spots for beaches, Ephesus and cruises.

The best time to visit Kuşadası is late May to June and September to early October: warm days of 24–30°C, a sea that is comfortably swimmable (about 22–26°C), thinner crowds and lower hotel prices than peak summer. July and August are the hottest (32°C+) and busiest; the sea is warmest in August–September; and winter is quiet and cheap but most beach businesses close, though Ephesus is at its most atmospheric.
For most visitors the two sweet spots are late May–June and September–early October. You get hot, reliably dry weather, a sea that is warm enough to swim, far smaller crowds at Ephesus than in high summer, and noticeably cheaper hotels. Choose July–August only if you specifically want the warmest sea and the liveliest nightlife, and are happy with peak heat, peak prices and peak crowds.
Kuşadası has a classic Aegean climate — long, hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. As a rough guide to average daytime highs: January 12°C, February 13°C, March 15°C, April 19°C, May 24°C, June 29°C, July 32°C, August 32°C, September 28°C, October 23°C, November 18°C, December 14°C. Rain is concentrated from November to February; June to September are almost completely dry with long hours of sunshine.
The Aegean here lags the air by a month or so. The sea is coldest in February–March (around 15–16°C), reaches a comfortable 20°C by late May, climbs to about 23–24°C in June and peaks near 26–27°C in August. Crucially for autumn travellers, it stays warm well into the shoulder season — still around 25°C in September and a swimmable 22–23°C through much of October — which is why September is such good value.
Spring is beautiful: wildflowers, green hills and pleasant 19–24°C days. April is still a little cool for sustained swimming and some seasonal businesses are only just opening, but it is superb for sightseeing. By late May everything is open, the sea is swimmable and the summer crowds have not yet arrived — one of the best windows of the year.
June is arguably the single best month: hot but not yet scorching (around 29°C), a warm sea, long days, and Ephesus far more comfortable than in the July–August furnace. Schools across Europe have not all broken up, so crowds and prices are still below their peak. If you want one month that does everything well, this is it.
High season. Expect 32°C+ days (occasionally pushing into the high 30s on inland tours), the warmest sea of the year, packed beaches, busy bars and the highest hotel prices. The Turkish domestic peak and European school holidays overlap here, so book well ahead. Ephesus is hard work in the midday sun — go at opening time or late afternoon and carry water. Great for a beach-and-nightlife holiday, less ideal for ruins.
For many regulars this beats summer. The fierce heat eases to a lovely 23–28°C, the sea is still warm from a whole summer of sunshine, the crowds thin out after the first week of September and prices drop. It is the most comfortable time to combine beach days with Ephesus, Şirince and the day trips. Early October keeps much of this before the season winds down.
Winter is mild but wet and low-key. Daytime highs sit around 12–18°C, many beach hotels, restaurants and excursion operators close for the season, and the resort feels sleepy. The upside is dramatic: Ephesus and the other ancient sites are almost empty and wonderfully atmospheric, the air is crisp and clear for photography, and city-style hotels and flights are at their cheapest. A great choice for a culture-focused trip if you are not here for the beach.
Two things drive the biggest crowds beyond the European summer holidays. First, Turkish school holidays — roughly mid-June to early September — bring large numbers of domestic visitors to the beaches. Second, the two religious holidays, Ramazan Bayramı (Eid al-Fitr) and Kurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha), trigger nationwide travel; their dates move about 11 days earlier each year, so check the calendar for your trip, as transfers, hotels and popular sites get very busy over those long weekends.
For beaches and swimming: July–September for the warmest sea, or June and late September for warm water with fewer people. For Ephesus and sightseeing: April–June and late September–October, when it is warm but not brutally hot. For cruises: most ships call between April and October, with the smoothest weather in late spring and early autumn. For budget travel: late October to April for the lowest prices (accepting that the beach season is over). For nightlife and buzz: July–August, when the resort is at full tilt.

June and September are the all-round best: hot, dry weather, a warm and swimmable sea, and smaller crowds and lower prices than July–August. Late May and early October are close behind.
July and August are the hottest, with average daytime highs around 32°C and occasional peaks into the high 30s, especially on inland tours like Pamukkale.
The sea is comfortably swimmable from late May (about 20°C) through to October. It peaks near 26–27°C in August and is still around 25°C in September and 22–23°C for much of October.
From late October to April, outside the beach season, when hotel and flight prices are at their lowest. Within the warm season, June and September are cheaper than peak July–August.
April–June and late September–October, when temperatures are pleasant for walking the ruins. In July–August, visit at opening time or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, and bring water and a hat.
